Hyattsville: Hamilton to Crittenden St
Continuing south on Baltimore Ave / US 1, the next two blocks are the historic commercial center of Hyattsville. The first is the short 5200 block, pictured below. It sits between the westward continuation of Hamilton St, to the right, and Gallatin St, to its left, with Neoclassical-style banks on either end.
The large building on the left, with the address 5200, was historically known as the First National Bank of Hyattsville. It was built in 1905 as a one-story brick structure and was expanded ca. 1930 to a two-story building with a Neoclassical facade clad in granite veneer. Until 1939 the building housed the Hyattsville Police Station, court, and jail. After the police moved out, it became known as the Professional Building, the name it still carries.
The Greek-columned building on the right was built in 1926 for the Prince George's Bank. (Hyattsville is in Prince George's County, Maryland.) I have no other information about it except that signage on the building recently advertised it and the two adjacent (and nondescript) modern buildings for sale as a group.

After the cold formality of limestone and granite, the buildings in the 5100 block are a visual surprise:
